We are now seeking outline planning permission to build up to 135 new homes in Fernhill Heath, including 40 per cent much-needed affordable homes.

While housing proposals often cause concern among local communities, the need for more homes – both market and affordable – has never been greater. There are more than 2,400 people on the council’s housing waiting list¹ – that includes young parents unable to provide secure, long-term homes for themselves and their children.

The under-supply of new homes is impacting everyone who doesn’t already own one, increasing pressure particularly among younger generations. According to the Office for National Statistics, house prices in Wychavon went up 10.3 per cent in the last 12 months to £350,000². To buy an average home in Wychavon you’d need an annual income of £78,000 (and that’s with a 20 per cent deposit): the reality for most, though, is they simply cannot afford to buy a home, with prices now 12 times the average income³.

So, the need for more homes – particularly affordable homes – has never been greater.
